Stay Safe - Dan Glendon & Cheryl MacDonald

Sunday March 15, 2020 - 1:00pm - After careful consideration, updates from the City of Kitchener (see below) and keeping the health and safety of our staff and customers first and foremost, we have decided to cancel March Break Camp and remain closed through to Friday March 20. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates on the balance of current and future programs.

We will contact all those registered directly regarding refunds and credit options.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate through this unprecedented and rapidly changing situation. Stay well and take care!

COVID-19 UpdateThe City of Kitchener’s response to public health emergencies is led by Region of Waterloo Public Health. We have full confidence in our local healthcare system and are committed to working closely with local hospitals, health care and community partners, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Public Health Ontario and national partners to monitor and respond accordingly to the COVID-19 situation.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve around the world and in our local community, the health and wellbeing of Kitchener residents remains our top priority. All area municipalities continue to work closely with the Region of Waterloo’s Public Health experts to monitor and respond to new developments.
Late evening on Friday, March 13, the Province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health provided updated guidance to support public health units in managing and responding to this ongoing issue. Based on this update, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, Region of Waterloo Public Health’s Acting Medical Officer of Health, has recommended an increased emphasis on social distancing in order to slow the spread of the virus within the community.
In response, the City of Kitchener, the region and all area municipalities are making significant changes to services and programming, starting Monday, March 16.

Closures and cancellations
Beginning Monday, March 16 the following changes will remain in effect until April 5, and will be evaluated on an ongoing basis:
Facility Closures

All cultural and recreational facilities will be closed to the public from March 16 to April 5. This includes all arenas, pools, community centres and Kitchener public libraries.
Cancellations
  • Camps
The province has issued guidance to licensed childcare providers which requires active screening for program participants, staff and volunteers. The City of Kitchener does not have the capacity or resources to enact these enhanced requirements; as a result, all Kitchener camps will be cancelled from March 16 to April 5.
  • Recreation programs and activities
All programs and activities offered in city facilities including community centres, pools, etc. will be cancelled and facilities will remain closed from March 16 to April 5. Refunds will be given to registrants for city-run programs. For more information, contact the respective centre.
  • Kitchener Market
We know that our local markets are an important food source for residents. For that reason, we will be investigating whether or not they can continue to operate the Kitchener Market while ensuring that a suitable level of social distancing can be achieved consistent with the guidance received from the Medical Officer of Health. A decision about whether or not they will be closed will be made prior to Saturday, March 21.
This is a rapidly evolving situation; discussions and decisions are being made on an ongoing basis. Any changes in operations will be communicated and posted to this webpage.
Covid-19 Updates

Friday March 13, 2020 – 11am - While subject to change based on future information from public health units and local authorities, March Break Camp and Competitive Team Training will continue as scheduled during the March Break. These are small group gatherings and considered low risk at this time. We are currently making decisions about future program impacts and will share this information as soon as possible.

Precautionary Measures

While we work hard to ensure each visit is clean and safe for you and your family, Glendon Gymnastics is currently taking precautionary measures with regard to the COVID-19 outbreak. Our goal is to always provide a safe environment for our athletes, staff and families and we want to be diligent without causing excessive fear and anxiety.

Here are some of the actions we are taking:
  • Increasing disinfecting of surfaces – door handles, railing, mats and equipment
  • Increasing signage around handwashing
  • Increasing availability of hand sanitizer
  • Asking our staff to wash hands with soap before and after each class
  • Asking staff to stay home if they are unwell
We are asking our families and athletes to:
  • Use hand sanitizer before, during and after practice
  • Bring water bottles clearly identified to help ensure they only use their own bottle
  • Follow proper handwashing and coughing procedures
  • Keeping your child home if they have a fever, are coughing, sneezing or generally unwell
  • Minimize your time in the viewing area and avoid bringing siblings or other family members who are not participating in gymnastics at the facility
  • Follow advisories for travelling and refrain from attending classes and camps for 2 weeks following your return, if you or somebody in your household has travelled outside of Canada including the US
Given the above precautions we are taking, if you are still uncomfortable sending your child to camp, we are offering full credits or refunds for families who decide they would not like to attend camps during the March Break. Families should email info@glendongymnastics.ca for more information.

We thank you for your support, patience and understanding as we navigate through these uncertain times. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate with families as the need arises.
