Competitive
Team

'Athlete desire, great coaching and top-notch facilities have been identified  as the three most important factors in achieving competitive success.'
Picture

Athlete Desire

The number one trait an elite competitive athlete must possess is deep desire. Regardless of the amount of physical talent, ultimate success in competitive gymnastics requires the proper attitude, the hunger to succeed, the willingness to persevere and the discipline to reach for perfection.  At Glendon Gymnastics we do everything we can to promote and develop these traits.

Great Coaching

In the lower levels of competitive gymnastics, athletes can often experience success based primarily on their individual talent.  As athletes progress to higher levels the use of strategies, proper planning, advanced training techniques, elite coaching knowledge and experience becomes crucial.

At Glendon Gymnastics the coaches work as a team so all of our athletes have access to the combined knowledge and experience of our entire staff. The Team Program is led by Head Coach, Dan Glendon who is recognized as a top-tier master coach. (Learn more here). Dan has successfully coached athletes at all levels from beginner Provincial stream to Canadian National Team members representing Canada at World Championships and the Olympic games.

Joy Barth,Glendon Gymnastics Assistant Head Coach is a former National level athlete who has represented Team Ontario at National Championships as well as in international competitions.  Joy is also an accredited Judge with Gymnastics Ontario.

Top-Notch Facilities

Glendon Gymnastics is a modern, bright, fully air-conditioned gymnastics facility filled with multiple set of Olympic equipment and specialized training aids.  The facility has been designed and built from the ground up to provide every advantage to ensure that all athletes from beginner to elite have the opportunity reach for their goals.

Pre-Team

Designed for younger gymnasts (ages 5 to 8 years) that show a keen gymnastics attitude and demonstrate athletic qualities such as flexibility, strength and co-ordination. The rules of the gym, proper gym etiquette and appropriate training habits will be introduced to these gymnasts as this program may become a stepping stone into the competitive team program in the future. Depending on age and level, these athletes will train anywhere from 2 to 4 times a week for 2 to 4 hours at a time.

Entrance into the Pre-Competitive Team Program is done through assessment. Candidates will be assessed on strength, flexibility, coordination and coachability. Based on results, competitive staff will direct the athlete to the appropriate program. To be assessed candidates must be curently enrolled at the Glendon Gymnastics centre.

Women's Artistic Competitive

Athletes selected to this program will have the opportunity to master the correct skill and art necessary for high levels of gymnastics achievement. Although the sport is a very individual endeavour, the athletes will experience a sense of team pride, belonging and accomplishment. While winning is always a goal as with any other sport, Glendon Gymnastics believes that winning should also be judged by setting and achieving goals rather than just by the number of medals or trophies that may be won. Our staff will treat each athlete's goals and aspirations individually. All athletes will receive the same quality of coaching and positive reinforcement regardless of their ability or level. This being said, one of our main objectives within the Glendon Gymnastics Competitive Team Program is to have each athlete represent the sport at the highest level, provincially, nationally or internationally based on their current abilities and commitment. These athletes will train 16 to 24 hours per week depending on their age and current ability level.

Entrance into the Women's Artistic Competitive Team Program is done through assessment. Candidates will be assessed on strength, flexibility, coordination, coachability and core gymnastics skills. Based on results, competitive staff will direct the athlete to the appropriate program. To be assessed candidates do not need to be enrolled at the Glendon Gymnastics centre, but must have previous pre-competitive or competitive experience.
